Overview

Simply Revival is a Shopify Plus health and wellness brand with over 100,000 customers. As a recurring client, they had recently upgraded to Shopify Plus and wanted to take full advantage of the unlocked checkout customization capabilities. The goal was to reduce checkout abandonment and increase completed checkout conversion by adding trust, urgency, and clarity directly at the point of purchase — without disrupting the native checkout flow.

Scope of Work

Built a custom Shopify Checkout UI Extension using React, TypeScript, JSX, and Preact — the standard stack for Shopify's Checkout UI Extensions API. The extension added the following directly into the checkout page:

  • Header image block — brand logo, social proof badge ("100,000+ Happy Customers" with avatar stack), and three USP icons (Fast Shipping, 365 Day Guarantee, Secure Checkout)
  • Urgency / reserved order timer — live countdown banner: "Due to high demand your order is reserved for: 4:17" to create purchase urgency and reduce drop-off
  • 365 Day Guarantee block — expanded trust section with icon, title, and descriptive text clarifying the guarantee terms at the moment of decision
  • Additional trust blocks — Secure Checkout (SSL explanation) and "Over 75,000+ Shipped Products" social proof
  • Checkout button copy update — changed the default "Pay now" button text to "Secure My Order" to reinforce security and reduce friction at the final step

The Problem

Simply Revival had just upgraded to Shopify Plus, which unlocked the ability to customize the checkout page — something not available on standard Shopify plans. Their checkout was the default Shopify experience: no brand presence, no trust signals, no urgency, and a generic "Pay now" button. For a health and wellness brand where trust is a primary purchase driver, leaving the checkout as a blank slate was a missed conversion opportunity. The client also wanted to address checkout abandonment specifically, as customers were reaching checkout but not completing their order.

The Solution

Built the extension as a Checkout UI Extension app deployed to the Simply Revival Shopify Plus store. The approach was to layer in conversion-focused elements at each stage of the checkout without adding friction or slowing the page. The header block was placed at the very top of the checkout to immediately reassure the customer they are in the right place — logo, social proof, and USPs visible before they even see the form. The urgency timer was implemented as a live countdown that resets per session, creating a real sense of scarcity tied to order reservation. The guarantee and trust blocks were placed lower in the checkout flow, at the point where hesitation typically peaks just before the final submit. The button copy change from "Pay now" to "Secure My Order" was a deliberate framing shift — removing the feeling of money leaving and replacing it with the feeling of securing something.

The Result

The extension was part of a broader CRO engagement with Simply Revival that resulted in overall conversion rate improvement from 1.64% to 2.15% (+31%) and net sales growth from approximately $302K to $423K month over month (+36%). The checkout extension specifically targeted completed checkout conversion — reducing the drop-off between checkout initiated and order placed. This was a recurring client relationship, with the checkout work building on previous store and PDP work already completed for the brand.
